Erwin enjoys the challenge of solving intractable infrastructure and resource allocation issues, and communicating those solutions in ways that are meaningful to affected communities.
His experience prior to Castalia includes a role at the New Zealand Treasury advising on economic and regulatory issues spanning biosecurity, forestry, energy, housing, and regional economic development. He also held a role at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment advising on mineral and petroleum resource issues.

What’s your favorite book and why?
After Virtue by Alasdair MacIntyre. No other book has come close to systematically explaining the development of morality and ethics, from the Ancient World to modernity. If you want to understand the incommensurable nature of contemporary moral issues, you need to read this book!
What’s one thing you think every person should experience in their lifetime?
Hunting (or gathering) food from the wild. Getting food from the field to the plate is a very human experience. It connects you to your ancestors who did not have the convenience of ready to eat food.
