Castalia presents fifth annual Renewable Islands Index and Marketplace at CREF
October 25, 2016 | Energy
This October, Castalia presented the fifth annual Renewable Islands Index at the Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF).
The Index is our annual ranking of jurisdictions in the Caribbean based on their policy/regulatory environment, projects developed to date, and future projects planned. This year, we expanded the ranking to include a record 29 jurisdictions, including, for the first time, Cuba.
Alongside the Index, we also presented our third annual Caribbean Renewable Energy Marketplace, a comprehensive database on planned and existing renewable projects in the region, including costs, technology, and planned completion dates for each project. This year’s Marketplace includes information on over 330 projects.
Castalia’s presentation continues to be a hallmark of CREF (held this year in Miami, Florida). Tim Kennedy (Manager) presented the Index and Marketplace, then participated in a panel conversation on regional investability and the pipeline of renewable energy projects in the Caribbean.

In the run-up to this year’s CREF, we also published two short knowledge pieces on renewables in the region, drawing from the Index and Marketplace:
- Renewable energy prices are declining
- Enabling environments for RE in the Caribbean are improving, but the largest markets still have some catching-up to do.
