Developing a Pipeline for a Private Infrastructure Fund, Ghana

The problem

Meridiam Africa—an infrastructure investor—was looking for investment opportunities in Ghana’s infrastructure sectors. Facing limited and unreliable market information, Meridiam was looking to originate investment opportunities and to describe risks, challenges, and opportunities in the country.

How we helped

Drawing on our extensive knowledge of Ghana’s infrastructure priorities we identified over 600 projects that could in principle be candidates for private finance. We screened this long list to create a shortlist of projects that met Meridiam’s investment criteria. We did preliminary due diligence on short-listed opportunities, identifying how to take each one forward, as well as key risks to mitigate.

Impact

Meridiam used the information provided to guide its pursuit strategy in Ghana. In August 2018, Meridiam was shortlisted to bid on the Accra-Tema Motorway PPP, one of the projects we recommended.
