Water Utilities Market Mapping

The problem

Many water utilities in Colombia struggled to attract finance, making it hard for them to improve service and expand coverage. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) was willing to provide finance, but did not know which of the more than 1,000 utilities in Colombia were suitable candidates.

How we helped

We identified utilities which needed finance and met the IFC’s criteria. We did this by collecting data and calculating KPIs for over 1,000 municipal water utilities and assessing them against the IFC’s requirements. We helped the IFC to select suitable candidates and facilitated meetings between the IFC and those utilities.

Impact

The IFC offered to finance two of the utilities we identified.
