Socio-Economic Trend Analysis for Telstra, Australia

The problem

Accelerating telecommunication convergence was changing workforce behavior in Australia in unexpected ways. Changing attitudes and an ageing population had begun to redefine work-life balance. Telstra—Australia’s largest telecommunications company—needed a socio-economic trend analysis to be able to respond, ensuring that its products and services met emerging needs.

How we helped

Castalia helped Telstra prepare a series of public discussion papers to consider how socio-economic trends would affect the workplace of the future. We examined Australia’s demographic dynamics and defined generational characteristics that would determine future workforce requirements. Our team identified emerging trends from advances in and adoption of ICT. We looked at recent experiences of small Australian businesses to understand how entrepreneurs capitalized on the opportunities provided by advances in ICT, and we highlighted new developments and opportunities over the horizon.

Impact

The socio-economic trend analysis helped Telstra refine its product offering and market strategy, maintaining its position as Australia’s leading telecommunications company.
